Birmingham Children's Hospital - Star Awards
In 2019 we were asked by Birmingham Women & Children's Hospital to choreograph an opening for their prestigious 'Star Awards'. This involved working with a group of young people at Birmingham Women & Children's Hospital who were either still continuing treatment or had recently been discharged. The young people had varying disabilities after life threatening events/accidents and illnesses which had affected them all in many different ways.
The young people met every Saturday morning for 4 weeks, where they were able to get to know one other and family members were able to meet too. This created a unique experience for both the young people and their parents. They played movement games, learnt about different dance styles and had lots of fun, alongside creating an opening ceremony movement piece inspired by the Circus/The Greatest Showman.
The rehearsals built towards a performance which opened the Star Awards, held at Edgbaston Cricket Ground; a glitzy black tie event with over 500 people in attendance. The piece even saw a surprise appearance from the CEO of the hospital Sarah-Jane Marsh. A truly wonderful experience that the young people, (and we), will never forget.
