Creative Connections 2021

In 2021, we reached out to Walsall locals, asking them to share some of their Arboretum memories with us. Their favourite Arbo moments, special spots and the role it has played in their lives, particularly during the pandemic.
These memories inspired Emily to write a poem, which was performed and recorded by Walsall residents, aged 5-83! They are the narrators of the piece. The filming of the Arboretum took place over the course of several months with our Filmmaker - Tom Synnott-Bell, and during that time we got to know the Gardeners, members of the Walsall Arboretum Users Group and had wonderful conversations with daily park goers. We would like to thank every single person who contributed. We received so many beautiful submissions...we couldn't have done it without you!
Our project, Down the Arbo was commissioned by Creative Black Country; one of the 17 fantastic Creative Connections 2021 projects. Part of the Creative People and Places ACE scheme, funded by Paycare and BCLM.
We are so grateful for the support that made this project possible. The film has been featured on BBC Midlands Today and BBC WM.
We hope the film serves as a visual celebration of the Arboretum and brings Walsall together; a mutual appreciation of the oasis in our town. The timelessness of nature.
If you enjoyed the piece and would like to share your thoughts with us, please...
