Going Dark

 

In September 2019, we set up the first Youth Theatre to exist at the Old Rep since the 1960’s! With a junior and senior group, we created an original piece of theatre inspired by the history of the Old Rep. Drawing inspiration from the shifts in Birmingham’s history, the actors and theatre makers who honed their craft both on and off that stage and most importantly the number of times the theatre was left in the ‘dark,’ before lighting up and coming to life once more. We never could have anticipated that less than a month after our performance, our Old Rep and theatres worldwide would go dark, for the foreseeable future. 

 

Going Dark was full of Shakespeare, song, silliness and ensemble led storytelling. (Supported by the Heritage Fund UK).
